Sustainable Road Construction Advocacy

Promoting affordable, durable, and climate-resilient concrete paving block roads for Uganda.

At the Civil Society Coalition on Transport (CISCOT) Uganda, we are committed to supporting, promoting, and advocating for affordable, sustainable, and innovative road construction methods that meet the needs of Uganda’s growing urban population. Our focus is on concrete road construction, particularly in urban areas where durability, cost-effectiveness, and resilience are critical.

Unlike traditional asphalt roads, which are highly vulnerable to water damage and require frequent repairs, concrete roads built with paving blocks offer a smarter alternative for Uganda’s cities and towns.

Why Concrete Roads with Paving Blocks?

  • Affordability: Paving blocks are inexpensive to produce locally, reducing reliance on imported materials.
  • Ease of construction: They are simple to manufacture, easy to lay, and require minimal specialized equipment.
  • Durability: Concrete paving blocks last longer than asphalt, resisting water damage and heavy traffic loads.
  • Low maintenance: Damaged sections can be replaced individually without costly resurfacing.
  • Urban suitability: Ideal for small corridors, feeder roads, and busy town centers where resilience and aesthetics matter.

Our Belief

CISCOT strongly believes that concrete paving block roads are the future of Uganda’s urban mobility. They represent a practical, cost-saving, and environmentally sustainable solution that can transform the way our cities grow and function.
